Beijing's hugeness means that it can be quite a challenge to pack everything into just a short stay, but with our five-day tour, you will be taken to the classic highlights that must not be missed!
We'll explore the Forbidden City, the self-contained city of the Ming and Qing dynasties for over six centuries, and pay a visit to the vast Tiananmen Square.
We will also stop by the 798 Art District which showcases the modern Chinese art scene in a disused factory compound from the 50’s. Throughout these five days, we'll have plenty of opportunity to explore the delightful hutongs of old Beijing and soak up the special atmosphere that is so unique to Beijing's old lanes and markets.

An Albatros guide will greet you at the airport or at the train station and take you to your hotel before we head out for your first gastronomic experience in Beijing.
Depending on your time of arrival you can go for a massage after dinner! It's on us!

| Day 2: Imperial Beijing - Kite making in the hutongs - Dim sum dinner | Meals: B L D |
Today you will see most of the famous sights of Beijing: Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and see the city from above at Coal Hill. After descending Coal Hill we will take a rickshaw ride through the narrow hutongs of central Beijing where we will spend the afternoon. After lunch at the legendary Drum and Gong restaurant, you will learn the fine art of kite making in the historical area near the Drum Tower.
Before dinner, you will have time to stroll down the cosy hutong street Nanluoguxiang - South Drum and Gong Alley.
Din Tai Fung is where we will enjoy dinner tonight. The Hong Kong branch of this dim sum restaurant won a Michelin star a few years ago. The menu is the same as in Hong Kong but since Michelin does not operate in Mainland China this particular branch has no stars... yet.

| Day 3: The Great Wall - Lunch in a village - Ming Tombs - Dinner in the Legation Quarter | Meals: B L D |
After breakfast, we leave early in the morning to reach the Great Wall at Mutianyu in time to climb the wall before our lunch in the little village of Beigou at the foot of the mountain. Xiaolumian Noodle Restaurant is a little restored farm house that serves as a high end noodle bar in the warm months of the year. After lunch we head further north to the Sacred Way - an avenue leading to the Ming tombs. At the Ming tombs, we enter the grave chamber of the only excavated tomb of the 13 emperor tombs in the area.
On our way back to central Beijing we pass by the Bird's Nest - the main stadium of the 2008 Olympics.
Tonight, dinner is served in the exclusive Lost Heaven Yunnan Restaurant in Ch'ien Men 23 situated in the old Legation Quarter that formerly housed the American Embassy.

| Day 4: The Opera House - City Planning Museum - Lunch on the 79th floor - 798 Art District | Meals: B L D |
We start out at the amazing NCPA - National Center of Performing Arts. Most tourists do not see this building because it is hidden away behind the Great Hall of the People but it is definitely worth a visit. Covered in titanium on the outside and Brazilian rosewood on the inside, the structure cost more than 3 billion Yuan - or almost 500 million US dollars. From the NCPA, we walk across Tiananmen Square to the City Planning Museum which is so much better than it sounds! One of the main attractions is a model of the entire city spread out on several hundred square metres.
Now it's lunch time. We head straight to the tallest building in the city and hit '79' in the elevator. Needless to say, the view is incredible from the 79th floor as is the food!
We spend the afternoon in the 798 Art District where galleries and hipsters are as plentuful as cafès and restaurants. The area is also very popular for wedding photography, so go to the old steam locomotive for some bride and groom spotting!
We save the best for last: a Peking Duck Dinner at Da Dong - a very popular restaurant hidden away next to a granary from the Ming Dynasty.

Enjoy your last day in Beijing. Let us know when to pick you up for your departure service. We'll take you to the airport or train station for your onward journey.

For transfers between destinations we use modern and comfortable vehicles that have air conditioning.
Level of ability required:
This tour does not include any strenuous activity so no particular level of ability is required, however please be prepared for some walking. If you have any concerns or questions regarding disability access, please contact us in advance.
Food and dietary information:
If you have any particular dietary preferences or requirements, please make these clear when you make your booking. Most types of diet can be catered for. We will eat at local restaurants. It’s not a problem to maintain a vegetarian diet in China.
Breakfast at the hotel is usually an international breakfast buffet.
Health and vaccinations:
In general, tourists do not need any vaccinations. Malaria vaccinations are not necessary in most parts of China. However, we advise you to consult with your doctor before travelling. For more information about health and vaccinations, please look at this website.
What to wear:
Weather in Beijing
Summertime in Beijing is usually charaterised by hot and humid days followed by balmy evenings. Winters are often very cold with temperatures dropping to -10 degrees Celcius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). Spring and autumn are good seasons for visiting China's capital although spring sometimes sees sandstorms caused by the winds blowing dust from the Mongolian steppe.
Baggage and what to bring:
Baggage
For domestic travel by air, the baggage allowance is 20kg (44lbs) per person. Since we do not provide tours with international air travel, please check your airline's website for luggage weight limits.
Adaptors
Flat two pin outlets are used in China. European round two pin outlets can also be used but don't fit perfectly. A plug adaptor can be purchased in most electronic stores.
Visa requirements:
Most travellers need a tourist visa to China. Please consult the Chinese consulate or embassy in your country of residence for visa application. This website may be useful in providing information regarding the application procedure.
Cancellations:
If you need to cancel
We understand that your travel plans sometimes change and we try to be as flexible as possible. However as we have to book accommodation at hotels we are also bound by their cancellation policies. In general, the following rules will apply when cancelling a tour you have booked:
- If cancelling more than 45 days before commencement of our services there is no cancellation fee and we will refund 100% of your money
- If cancelling within 45 to 31 days before commencement of our services: 20 % of the total booking value will be levied
- If cancelling within 30 to 15 days before commencement of our services: 60 % of the total booking value will be levied
- We are unable to offer a refund if cancelling less than two weeks before commencement of our services
